PHI RELATIONSHIPS AT CHARLEY KNOLL
By Steve Pyrah
I have been intrigued for some time now by the inclusion of geometric and mathematical formula in some crop formations. If we consider the theory that long vanished cultures ‘talk’ to us through the immortal and universal language of mathematics (see G. Hancock ‘Fingerprints of the Gods’) then crop formations too could also present a unique opportunity for an intelligence to ‘speak’ to us.
I started to look at the geometry of crop formations because it was reported that the Stonehenge Julia set formation was an exact phi spiral. I found that whilst the inner circles did resemble a Phi spiral the circles on the outer part deviate from Phi by an extremely large amount.
Phi, also known as the Golden ratio, Golden section or Golden mean, has been known about for thousands of years. Any line or measurement from a to b can be divided into sections like quarters or halves for example. Lines of construction that are divided by the ratio of phi like these at the Charley Knoll are frequently used in sacred architecture like most medieval European cathedrals do. The Egyptian Osirion at Abydos, (thought by some to be at least twelve thousand years old) is built with a ground plan based on Phi, as is the temple of Luxor. Phi (1.6180339) enigmatically occurs repeatedly in nature. A Nautilus shell, unlike the Stonehenge Julia set, is a Phi spiral. Plant growth seems to be governed by Phi, for example the number of petals on most flowers is a Fabanacci number (where each successive number increases by Phi) i.e. 2,3,5,8,13, etc. If the left and right handed spirals on a pine cone, pineapple or sunflower are counted each spiral will be two successive Fabanacci numbers, i.e. 5 and 8, or 8 and 13, or 13 and 21, etc. The Charley Knoll formation was 3 circles wide by 5 circles long! Renaissance genius Leonardo Da Vinci obviously considered Phi important as he uses it numerous times in his art, e.g. the navel of his nudes is usually at the Phi point. The ratio became regarded as sacred and is said to be the most perfect division of unity.
When I checked to see if the formation at Charley Knoll had any mathematical message I was absolutely stunned to find numerous extraordinary Phi ratios, and sacred Phi geometry in its design.
A Phi relationship occurs when the inner point of a three-point line is placed on the geometric Phi point of that line (ie 1.618 of the distance between the two end points) e.g. in Charley Knoll the Phi point of the line measured between the two centres of the top and bottom circles falls to within 1" of the centre of the large central ring!
There is also two-dimensional Phi geometry that includes breadth as well as length. A 2d. Phi relationship is claimed if some components of a formation align with some other of the components of a Phi rectangle nest and spiral (see figs 2 - 4) you will notice that the spiral and rectangles appear to spiral down to a point at the centre. This point does not in fact exist because “it” decreases in size infinitely. I have christened this "point" Infinite Phi. Check these out.
Fig 1. shows the best (within 12" accuracy) of the two-dimensional phi relationships that make up Charley Knoll, note that even the "grapeshot" thought by some to be a kind of signature, and separate from the formation, are in fact in dynamic Phi harmony with the rest of the formation making them just as important as a whole to the design or purpose of the glyph as any other part.
Fig 2. shows (with less accuracy) how many components of one phi rectangle nest with its spiral "coincidentally" synchronise with some components of the glyph. Notice again how the grapeshot synchronize as one with the whole.
Fig 3. Shows the arms in relationship to a Phi rectangle nest.
Fig 4. Shows two interlocking phi nests drawn between the two centres of the top and bottom circles showing many dynamic Phi relationships in the formation, especially note the infinite Phi axis (shown as green)in conjunction with CKs’ main shaft axis.
Dynamic repeating geometric patterns and ratios such as these are mathematics’ equivalent of pure poetry. Something to ponder, something to meditate upon, a spiritual truth, a glimpse of universal perfection.
This allies the Charley Knoll crop formation and by association the circle makers, to a concept I give a lot of credence to. Robert M. Pirsig’s metaphysic of quality which explores the relationships between; perfection . beauty . good . right . moral . best . value . excellence . correctness, and discovers therein a physically real fundamental principal reality of the universe.
Another pointer to the spiritual nature of crop circles is the many different levels that they (crop circles) work on simultaneously, there are many paths to God, wisdom/evolution works on many levels.
To one it is the special revelation that C.K represents the constellation cygnus. To another it is a personal reply or acknowledgement to the seven members of a crop circle meditation study group. To another it is the embodiment of Pi (the mathematical ratio of the radius of a circle to its circumference). To another it is a healing site for the local landscape damaged by the M1 and local mining. To another it is a temporary temple. To another it is vandalism. Art. Hoax. Message from God. Message from E.T. Rutting Hedgehogs. Helicopter down wash. Plasma vortex. Work of devic beings. Communication from the spirit world. With a couple of exceptions that research has ruled out it could be any of these. I side with those who think it could be a grouping of some of the above, as I said the roads to God are many and varied.
So what is the message that
is shouting
out loud and clear from the crop formation of Charley Knoll? As this formation was NOT man
made as any dowser or psychic will tell you. Through its maker the formation is
saying “I , we exist independent of your normal five sense perception
of reality. I am or we are conscious, I am, we are intelligent. Man is not the
only intelligence in the cosmos. We communicate this
information to you for your enlightenment".
This formation was NOT man
made . Charley Knoll was a fleeting miracle.
